PIERCING AFTERCARE GUIDE

DO’S
  • Clean with saline solution 1-2x a day (Spray piercing with saline solution and let it air dry).

  • Clean with Betadine for 2-3 days only (Only for fresh piercings).

  • If crust develops around the piercing, flush the saline solution on the q-tip to remove any excess.

  • A common problem is that crust develops around the piercing because it is not being regularly cleaned. Ensure that the piercing is cleaned everyday.

  • Make sure that the piercing gets properly dried as it may get prone to infection.

  • When the piercing is swelling, apply cold compress (Make sure that the ice is clean and wrapped around a clean towel).
  • When the piercing has formed a bump and has discharge, apply warm compress. (Then once the bump has subsided, apply cold compress)
  • Can shower with mild soap.
DONT’S
  • Do not apply alcohol, baby oil, tea tree oil, ointment (unless prescribed).

  • Avoid sleeping on the side with the new piercing.

  • Avoid playing, touching or removing the earring.

  • Avoid applying harsh chemicals (Kojic, skincare, retinol).

  • Avoid exposure to hair products.

  • Avoid getting hair strands getting snagged/stuck in the piercing.

  • Avoid swimming after getting your piercing. (Pool & beach)

    • Lobe - Wait 1-2 months

    • Cartilage - Wait 3-5 months

  • Avoid wearing helmets especially if you have a new cartilage piercing. If unavoidable, wear a scarf around the head first before wearing the helmet.

  • Avoid getting a piercing right before your flight. This might get provoked due to the cabin pressure brought by the flight.

  • In the 1st week of your new and fresh piercing, avoid excessive sweating.

  • Do not remove the earring from your piercing to clean because it will close.
